The loss last night stings but give credit to Dallas. They played a tight checking game and gave us very little. The series is far from over and the Flames are in a good position being tied in the series.
I also fully understand why some people are concerned. This team has a recent history of not showing up when it matters and the goal scoring, especially 5 on 5 has dried up. People are justified in feeling that but I also think this organization has created a negative fan experience over the years. Let’s be honest, some stats out there are pretty ugly. Flames haven’t been up 2-0 in a series since 2004. Other stats show the inability to get out of the first round etc.
This is why last nights loss has been so polarizing. The Flames have one championship and an amazing run in 2004 basically sums it up. Being skeptical is well within the norm until the team shows otherwise. Could this year be different? Absolutely and I still think the Flames take Dallas. I’m much more optimistic with Darryl Sutter leading the charge than someone like Geoff Ward.
What I’m trying to say is take it easy on those who have their doubts. The organization has little previous success to inspire confidence (this group as well has failed in the playoffs). Let’s hope we have a great two games in Dallas and finish it off on Wednesday at the Dome.
