Well you kind of take what the defense gives you right? The way the Stars have defended the middle of the ice has been as good as it gets. I’d actually prefer Gaudreau to button hook rather than force plays through coverage, turn the puck over and give up chances going the other way.
Just looking at the Dallas Stars’ top line, it’s the same story. They’re not forcing anything either, they’re playing extremely conservatively and not hurting themselves in the process. This series unfortunately is what it is, we’ve got 2 teams not opening up, not giving their opponent anything and playing the most boring style of hockey on earth.
As a positive though, at the very least, I don’t think I’ve seen the Flames defend this well in the past playoff matchups. So at the very least, this gives me more confidence compared to the previous Ducks, Avs, Stars series.
