Sure, the Oilers did it, but we already know the Oilers are stupid. The Leafs had a short drive to the border and a sufficiently large airport right across it.
Oilers and apparently the Kings did it too returning home although I don't see a flight out of YEG that would correspond to the King's charter. (news reports were both teams flew to YVR, bussed across the border, then flew the rest of the way)/ Leafs bussed to Buffalo and I assume Tampa did the same. They are doing it because you need a negative test to fly to the US but not to drive and this ensures nobody get's snagged with a positive test and cannot travel. It has nothing to do with time saving.

I assume the Stars and Flames would like to do something similar but they would need to go out of their way to do it. I don't see any charters out of YYC last night on Flightaware so it's tough to tell. Perhaps fly to Winnipeg, bus to North Dakota and go from there?
