I posted about this in another thread. A couple of notes
There was a 10 game stretch where Marky’s 7 starts were mainly non playoff teams and frankly not very good ones, including Buffalo, NJ, Ari and Det , and the three games they gave Vladar were Col / Was / Col
In terms of games that dinged his stats, there were a few of note
- a 4 game losing streak in January, coming shortly after the Covid shutdown, where the entire team played poorly. Vladar gave up 4 in Tampa and 6 in Carolina, Marky 6 vs Florida and 4 vs Ottawa. At the time, Vladar had 7 prior games, so those decimated his stats
- 2 other games where he relieved Markstrom in the drubbings against Van and Vegas, and both goalies’ stats took a beating
Markstrom of course played in about 40 more games. We all appreciate that the team was very consistent all year, and he was excellent. And if you look at the bottom of the standings, you know he got most of the starts against those opponents in there
I really did not see a significant drop off from one to the other.
A tremendous season by the goalies.
Also..
Dan Frickin’ Vladar!
