The retail market has really pushed the 3/4 ton truck to the brink of extinction. The truck really doesn't make sense to a consumer anymore. The price of a 3500 (or within $1500) with the capabilities of a 1500. Buyers use to believe that they road much better then a 1 ton but that is no longer the case. A beefier rear end and an extra leaf spring are what you pay for when you move from a 2500 to a 3500 but powertrain remains the same, while the capacities take a major jump. The problem is that 2500's overload very quickly once you are towing a 5th wheel, toy hauler, loaded sled deck and towing an r/v etc...
In BC the 3500/ F-350/ 1 ton, is also exempt from the luxury tax so in BC there is NO demand for the 3/4 ton from a new retail purchase perspective. BC is also more strict and enforces towing and load capacities on personal vehicles so those over loading their trucks and head to BC could be in for some bad news.
