If that’s one of those old security systems that get monitored, look into Konnected. It’s a small board that you re-wire your old system into. It was the only Kickstarter campaign that I ever backed.

I re-wired my old alarm system into the Konnected board and integrated it with SmartThings. I’ve since moved it to Home Assistant. I can see when doors are opened and when motion is triggered on my phone. I’ve setup some automations like alerts if a door is open too long.

I can also arm and disarm the house using my phone which is great. Even then on the siren remotely if I wanted to.
