It’s not part of tons of players games. Size is irrelevant. It’s so annoying, just because a hockey player is 6’3”, 200 lbs (average NHL size???), they have to play a physical game they didn’t get them to that point to begin with? Which apparently doesn’t count as setting up in the slot and taking abuse each game, but whatever.
He scored goals, and was always in tough areas. That was his game. Obviously the reason we’re having this conversation is the goal scoring is a distant memory now. But he didn’t need to “play physical” then either.
We could spend all day naming players of similar size to Monahan who don’t play physical in the way you’re asking for. Ryan O’Rielly, Tavares… just off the top of my head to start. Like ####, Monahan out hits Tage Thompson.
