The fact is, they didn't. They signed Yandle. And the Flyers had a 10-game losing streak earlier this season TWICE and he wasn't very good. Games still mattered for them at that time and they didn't sit him then.
At this point in the season, the games don't matter. It's a complete dick move by the coach. It's a "look at me" move by Yeo who's power tripping. No coincidence that he decides to end the streak against the Leafs of all teams on a Saturday night.
I agree with a poster who said that players around the league will remember this. You'd better believe they will.
Also, the player who replaced Yandle in the lineup, Ronnie Attard was -4 in 16 minutes of ice time. He's barely a prospect, 23 years old and that was his first NHL game.

Saying that the Flyers knew what they were getting isn't the whole truth. Yandle was still a 0.5 PPG defender with the Panthers when they bought him out and you could very well make the case that he would still be at least a PP specialist. Fletcher signed him to a league minimum deal, hardly a risk for exchange to keep his streak alive, right? You guys haven't seen how detrimental his attitude is. Him in the lineup started to backfire about after game 10 and yet he got inserted in to the lineup totally undeservingly He got his streak, of course they won't immediately stop playing him, how awkward would that be? And like I said before, fabricating another milestone him for reaching 1000 games would be doubling down on the joke that the whole ironman streak has become, mostly due to Yandle. Like would Yandle even want that? "here's a cake with one candle for reaching 1000 games, now go in your corner and celebrate alone because nobody else cares" lol. And then he never plays another game in the league again.
