It was obviously important to him. Sitting him instead of helping him reach the final 11 games is a jerk move and it sends a message across the league. If I'm getting the exact same offer from Philadelphia as I was from almost any other team I would turn down Philadelphia. This as an example of how they treat their players and players do notice these things.

He played about a 100 games too many because he was able to hold both the Panthers and the Flyers hostage with his streak. At this point I'm sure there are no skeletons left in the closet for anyone in the league, everyone knows that Yandle is a replacement level player and teams force fed him the #1 spot on the ironman list. Manufacturing another milestone for reaching 1000 games would be nothing short of embarrassing. Not to mention it would undermine the whole point of having milestones, even if sad ones like the ironman.
