Stone might have agreed with the goal of possible future contracts with the Flames - which happened.
I can’t see any reference in the CBA but everything indicates that you can’t buy out injured players. I’m willing to concede (mainly because I’d love to be able to get some additional flexibility), if you know of other players who were bought out when they were injured.
