This is where I think nuance is important. It is entirely possible to point out that a player's level of play has sharply declined, to the point where it sometimes hurts the team to have him in the lineup... without actually faulting him for the situation that he's in. The former has always been my position - pointing out that he can't nearly play at the level he once could, but without actually placing blame on him. He suffered some serious injuries in recent years, ones he could not fully recover from. Of course it is not his fault. A major injury could happen to any player at any time, and have lingering effects throughout the rest of the player's career. It's professional sports and sometimes that's just what happens.

I would like to echo your sentiments and wish Sean the absolute best in all his future endeavors. Hopefully he can recover enough to resume his NHL career. If he can't, then hopefully he succeeds in anything he chooses to do going forward. He has always been a true professional from the moment he became a Calgary Flame, and he deserves our thanks and gratitude for all he has done while wearing the flaming C.
