This is right, as well as Children of Men, Brazil, Blade Runner, A Clockwork Orange... a few other staples.

The problem with people making "best of" lists in the genre is all the fanboyism. If you're judging the movies objectively on their merits, no Star Wars or Star Trek movies belong anywhere near a top 10. Old trek is legitimate sci fi stuff, but the movies aren't great movies. In spite of being all about shooting lasers in space, Star Wars isn't strong sci fi, nor are any of them particularly great movies despite some of them being pretty entertaining.

I honestly get the feeling that a lot of people who claim to be "sci fi fans" have never heard of Robert Heinlein. I'm immediately reminded of someone saying in the Dune thread that they didn't know it was a book.
