Meaning the flames (#2) would play the oilers (#7)?
Or is there some divisional aspect to it? Sorry, it's been a couple years since the flames were in a normal format playoffs......
And I don't know if the wild card position plays a role- can 5 teams from the central be in with only 3 from the pacific?

It's divisional.
#1 Pacific vs. Wild Card
#2 Pacific vs. #3 Pacific
Winners play in round 2
#1 Central vs. Wild Card
#2 Central vs. #3 Central
Winners play in round 2
The better #1 seed (Colorado) plays WC2, lower #1 seed (us) plays WC1. Yes, both wild cards can be from the same division (happens pretty often).
If the playoffs started today:
Calgary (P1) vs. St. Louis (WC1)
LA (P2) vs. Edmonton (P3)
Colorado (C1) vs. Dallas (WC2)
Minnesota (C2) vs. Nashville (C3)
