Allegedly,
Rock didn't write the joke, only delivered it. I guess Will has more slaps to deliver? Singing telegrams, maybe?
I guess I just wonder if he'd have gone up and slapped Sykes if she'd made the same comment. It wasn't the best joke, but it wasn't a situation where anyone needed their "honor" protected. And seriously, it's 2022. I told my husband I'd have been more upset by his behavior "on my behalf" than the joke. I mean really, I can handle my own ####, especially something like that. I'd have rolled my eyes, the same as she did, and left it at that. Will went and Streisand'd the whole thing. It would have been over in 2 seconds. I think a lot of people were still laughing at the poke Rock was giving Bardem and didn't even hear the GI Jane joke, but Will made sure everyone knew after that.
We do a lot of morbid humor in our house, about medical issues - even though my daughter's cancer was minor and highly treatable, we used the hell out of it - she'd stub her toe or something silly would happen and we would say "Oh, it's because of the cancer." We laugh because what else do we do? While I would have rolled my eyes, I also probably would have had a wry laugh about it because who the hell cares about such a little thing. Hell, my dad was dying of cancer and was joking himself about how he'd haunt us if we did anything more than put him in a plywood box because caskets are ridiculously overpriced. I joked right back that he'd always wanted a log house, maybe now was his chance, he should have a log casket made. *shrug* My dad laughed his ass off and high fived me for it.
I dunno. The reaction seemed way over the top to me.
