Except this wasn't a fight. It was a guy telling a joke to a theatre full of people broadcast to an audience of tens of millions getting approached on stage by another guy and getting slapped. Chris Rock had absolutely no expection of getting hit.

As a guy that's been sucker punched out of nowhere in a damned on-ice handshake after a hockey game then sprung up, looked around in confusion, and then shook hands with the next equally confused opponent in line I completely understand Rock's reaction.
