Vegas is also 3-7-0 in their last ten and 7-13-0 in their last 20. That doesn't mean they weren't desperate to shed Dadonov so they could activate someone else who might help them more, but whether that's the case or not, they currently look like a mess and most likely their 100M roster will watch the playoffs from home.

Say VGK get 5 pts in their next 3 games (CHI, SEA, SEA).
Say EDM get 4 pts in their next 5 games (CGY, ARI, LAK, STL, ANA). 1-2-2 or 2-3 isn't a crazy expectation.
Through 70 games each, EDM would have a 2pt lead. They'd still face each other once - a win in regulation would mean they are essentially tied.
Obviously they need some help, but EDM has a way tougher last stretch. And E=NG.
