I do think Kelly McCrimmon has got in over his head a bit. He manages his team like a fantasy team where as soon as someone is available he falls all over himself to go out and get that player, and forgets that he has to move another to balance things out. He can't seem to resist the urge of the shiny new toy.

At least with the LTIR, it's not like you can change out the bodies on a daily basis. So Reilly Smith who has been out of the lineup since the 8th of March is injured and not playing does at least seem to legitimately be injured. Now that he's on IR, he's likely not going to be activated again this season.

It opens up space for them to Activate a guy like Martinez, but I don't think it's enough to get Stone back in the lineup which is likely why they tried to free up the other 3.3 or so by moving out Dadonov. They're down to only 15 games left albeit a pretty cupcake schedule as only 5 of those teams are currently in the playoffs, and Dallas and Edmonton are two of those. Still they still have a lot of key guys not playing on a nightly basis, and it's not like Reilly Smith coming out of their lineup is like the Flames taking Monahan out of theirs. This does take a productive player out of their lineup. Even if they can finish out at 11-4 in their final 15 games that gets them to the benchmark of the Snake a 225 point increase on their current point percentage...Dallas, Edmonton, and Los Angeles would all finish higher than that if they continue at their current point percentage.
