Friedman and Marek were talking about Coronato this morning saying he was likely returning to Harvard next year.
They also said that Calgary wouldn’t have drafted him if they weren’t confident they could sign him, and they did their homework. They also talked about how at one point this year he was looking to leave Harvard and join Barrie of the OHL.

This isn’t just about the player either. His representative’s reputation with NHL executives is also on the line if things go sideways, so there are numerous levels of trust.

Neither of these topics were ever in the scenario with Johnny or Fox, which makes sense. With both being later round picks, yes the team selected them, but not with an extremely high value pick. When the time to sign came around it was obvious both would be first round picks in a re-draft, changing the negotiation.

Ultimately it’s about fostering the trust to build a partnership that benefits both parties.
