Strictly observational and I'm not adept enough to back these observations with stats. I do believe Carpenter is going to supplant Monahan as the 4th line center. I don't know if it's physical or between the ears. Either way it's tough to see the fall.

Yeah, this is what I’ve been seeing for quite some time, not even exclusive to just this season. It’s a big reason I was pushing for a trade in the offseason, there was just no fit. Monahan, much like James Neal, needs to be paired with someone who can play with pace.
Both Lucic and Monahan actually need this to hide their skating deficiencies. But right now, there’s isn’t much available for either of them, so unfortunately, they’re both stuck on the misfit line that’s just slow and ineffective.
