Ah, I see. OptimalTates was framing this as if it were a cap dodge, and that does seem to be some posters' go-to assumption any time a player is on LTIR.

The fact is, a few posters have been claiming that Vegas would be able to ice a $100-million roster (which is an exaggeration: even now their total cap hit including LTIR is a bit under $93 million) on day 1 of the playoffs, and they wouldn't have to lose any roster players to do so.

Well, here we are, they have already sent Dadonov out of town, and replaced him with a player who's been on LTIR since 2019. Somehow I don't think Kesler is going to be miraculously ready to play in the first round.

Even if every other player on the Vegas roster is good to go for game 1 of the playoffs, including emergency callups, their total cap number will be $85,855,114 according to CapFriendly. This is not the crisis some people are making it out to be. Plenty of teams have gone that far over the cap just by accruing space through the season and loading up at the deadline.
