I think things are just working out a lot better for him this year. The reason Treliving has tended to do stuff just along the edges at recent TD's is because—as he says—"I take my cues from the team"—and the team hadn't been playing great. The last time the time the Flames were leading their Division Treliving went hard after Stone, then circled back on Zucker. When both those fell through he then made a trade for Kadri, only to see that also scrapped.
Treliving has always had a good eye for what the team needs, but it takes time, patience and a lot of luck to get all the pieces to fit together. Things are finally coming together this year.
