You're not using "Oil thinking" to understand their position.... Lindholm is just a 4.85 million dollar player, compared to Nurse at 9.25 for example... Nurse is twice as good (just under) according to "Oil thinking"... Calgary doesn't have even one 8 million dollar players, while Edmonton has 3 that are over which includes the highest paid player in the league and they have their own 9 million defense man, so Edmonton is better (Oil thinking). They do trail Calgary in goal, but just by 1.5 million for their top goalie, but almost equal in the tandem (Koskinen and Smith)... so if they acquire and pay their next goalie 6 million or more (regardless who it is), they'll be equal or better than Calgary in all aspects of the game - Oil thinking. We know they pay all their coaches and ex-coaches more than Calgary - so their coaching must be better.
Oil thinking is so easy. Higher paid players are better, so overpay at every position. Higher drafted players are better - so pay them more and they'll be better... Repeat. If you can't make the playoffs - give up as soon as you realize it and tank for the remaining of the season so you can win the draft lottery again and again and again and again. Repeat.
