If Putin gets indicted for war crimes, which I think he will, they might make lifting some of the sanctions contingent on turning him over. There are a lot of places to hide in Russia though and he won't have a shortage of people protecting him.
I think a big reason for why Ukraine has been holding strong so far is morale. I know it gets talked about a lot, but it is phenomenal how well Zelenskyy has been able to rally people not just in Ukraine, but in other countries. It's amazing the difference that a strong leader can make for resistance movement.
