The flip side of that is, in practical terms, those territories are only loosely Ukrainian already... IMO, making it official is a small price to pay to stop the war now, especially if there is a financial consideration, even if it's not officially for the territories, i.e. instead of $10B for rebuilding, Russia pays $15B for "rebuilding"
