Canadiens at Flames March 3, 2022: Five things you should know

The matchup: This is the second of two meetings between these teams and the Canadiens posted a 4-2 win over the Flames at the Bell Centre on Nov. 11.

Toffoli off to a good start: Tyler Toffoli, who was traded from Montreal to Calgary last month, is proving to be a good fit with the Flames. Toffoli, who was Montreal’s leading scorer last season, has five goals and two assists in seven games in Calgary.

St. Louis’ hockey journey comes full circle in return to Calgary

“I never thought he’d become a coach, but then I saw him coach summer hockey with his kids,” said Denis Gauthier, who came up with St. Louis in the Flames organization.
“He was so professional with the kids, doing the right things and asking them to play the right way. They were the best minor hockey coached team I’d ever coached against, just the way he had them play. He had a vibe for the game and how it should be played and taught at a young age for the players to become better as they get older. The kids all played a very mature game…Marty has this positive cockiness about him. His assurance. He knows where he wants to go and what he wants. His aura is like no one else, so when he steps into the locker room, he’s got instant respect from all the guys, whether he has that coaching experience or not.”

Calgary takes home win streak into matchup with Montreal

The Flames are 15-4-4 at home. Calgary is the top team in the Western Conference with 5.8 assists per game, led by Johnny Gaudreau averaging 0.9

TOP PERFORMERS: Andrew Mangiapane leads the Flames with 28 goals and has 38 points. Matthew Tkachuk has 16 points over the last 10 games for Calgary. Jesse Ylonen leads the Canadiens with a plus-two in seven games this season. Cole Caufield has six goals and five assists over the last 10 games for Montreal.

Odds
The Calgary Flames (31-14-6) are heavy favorites when they host the Montreal Canadiens (13-33-7) on Thursday, March 3 at 9:00 PM ET. The Flames are -400 on the moneyline to win, while the Canadiens have +310 moneyline odds.
