Getting a high draft pick and getting a player like that, developing him to a large extent even though he's a good player on his own and everything and then just losing him to free agency, you can't do that in my opinion. Maybe if we win a cup with him first then I'd be okay with him re-signing somewhere else if that's what he chooses.
He's a Flame and made his mark here and in the league. Brady signed with Ottawa so I don't see how Tkachuk won't want to stay here other than another team offering him a lot of money.

Tkachuk just looks like he's having a lot of fun playing right now. He's getting to play his game in a system that works for him with linemates that he clicks with. I can't understand why he would opt to leave that.
I don't, however, expect him to sign early. He and his agent will hold out for the best deal from the Flames.
I also don't expect any of the big UFAs to be signed until the cap situation is sorted out. IMO some combo of Monahan, Lucic, Mangiapane, Backlulnd, etc.. will not be on the team next year.
