I honestly can't see Obi-Wan leaving Luke unguarded no matter what. Luke to him was the last hope of the light side of the force. There could be 10,000 Jedi out there screaming for help, and Obi-Wan wouldn't leave Luke to rescue them. At the same time, it would have been simpler for Obi-Wan to raise Luke on his own and train him. But in the book ROTS Yoda forbad him from that, stating that the reliance on Jedi traditions, training Jedi from an early age had really been a part of the reason why the Jedi fell. It was basically left up to the Force and Luke's destiny if he was to become a Jedi.


Its the main reason why Ben dropped him off with the Lars.
