Game Night: Kraken at Flames

WHY WATCH?

FAMILIAR FOE

The Flames will be hosting a franchise legend and fan fave … and shooting to inch a little closer to franchise history. Kraken captain Mark Giordano will receive a warm welcome in his first regular-season return trip to the Saddledome, where he was a staple on the blue-line for much of the past 15 seasons, but the Flames can’t be feeling too sentimental as they face their old friend. They are aiming for a ninth straight victory. The longest winning streak in club lore is 10.

Mark Giordano returns to Calgary

"It's about playing with so many of those guys there for a long time and having great relationships," Giordano said before scoring a goal and adding two assists Dec. 30 in a 6-4 loss to the Flames in Seattle. "So, it's going to be cool playing against them. I think we're all competitive, so we want to do well against each other. And obviously, I'm the same. So, it will be fun."

Giordano said he wants to play at least one more season.

"You definitely realize time is ticking when you get to my age," Giordano said. "You only have so many more cracks at winning the Cup. That's my goal from here on out in my career. It's not about anything else but that. We'll see how it all plays out."

Return of former Flames captain Mark Giordano no ordinary homecoming

Over the course of his storied ascension to captaincy in Calgary, Mark Giordano became one of the most beloved Flames in franchise history.

So, yes, there will be a lengthy video tribute welcoming him back to the Saddledome Saturday when he makes his first regular season appearance as captain with the Seattle Kraken.
