Accepting your premise, the fact is we did the best thing possible to address the deficiency, given what was realistically available. Keeping in mind the short and long term interests of the team in mind.
What this tells me is our supposed "3rd" Line is caving us in and is our weakest link. Lets be honest Sean should be eating popcorn on a nightly basis.
Brad needs to go out and address the 3 C situation, I think at this point Monahan not playing will actually help the team.

What legit 2C (or 3C upgrade on monahan) would have been available for the same value bump Toffoli provides at a similar cost? Tell me the player and tell me the player/package we’d have to give up to make that happen? And then defend the relative value vs what we paid for Toffoli (beans)?
There is this unicorn belief that 2C’s grow on trees, are affordable, represent significant upgrades, and can be had without mortgaging the future. It’s unrealistic and, quite frankly, nonsensical wishcasting.
