I've been thinking today about how Brad has been bringing in exactly the sort of player that Darryl needs to play his system. At first I thought it was a new approach for Treliving, and a nice step in the right direction. Thinking about it some more, I think this has maybe always been his MO.
GG stupidly and stubbornly tried to convert Brodie to a LD and probably was asking for another top 4 RD. Treliving tried to help that by trading for Hamonic, which was one of his worst mistakes. It seems highly likely that he brought in Ryan for Peters. Could these same bad coaches have been involved in the bad decisions to bring in Brouwer and Neal?
What if Treliving's biggest failings are an inability to identify a good coach and being too eager to fill voids these bad coaches create or embiggen in their lineups? Darryl basically solves both of those problems at once.
Maybe I'm overvaluing this Toffoli deal and it will end up blowing up in everyone's face, but for today at least, it sure seems like Treliving has turned the corner.
