I'd be stunned if he doesn't take the highest value contract he can get, unless he get's an offer from a team in a low income tax state where he may take less gross money to get the best net. Still he might even shy from that without some sort of trade protection. I think Zadorov is adaptable enough that he's not too concerned about who he plays for, and is well aware that they can change in an instant. His summer interviews indicate that he's a pretty smart guy and that the only thing that won't change is the dollar value of his next contract.
Simply put the Flames won't be able to afford him next year, and as has been noted, they do have a couple of younger guys that they need to grab one of the spots in the lineup. Gudbransson on the other hand may be more willing to look beyond the compensation number in terms of where he opts to go next year. But if the Flames do very well, he might find a bit more interest in the market for his services in the summer.
