McDavid is an offensive superstar.
A well rounded hockey player he is not.
He gets paid massive amounts of money to be a leader, and great on both sides of the puck. He 100% deserves criticism for being a weak link defensively.
The oilers have done this to themselves for well over a decade now. Give the youngsters the keys to the city, and tell everybody how great their team will be before they've accomplished anything, and give them a free pass when it comes to playing hockey the way it needs to be played in order to actually be a winner.
Then they scratch their heads in amazement when it all comes crashing down around them every year, fire a bunch of off ice staff, and proclaim that there must be something in the water.
