Yeah the Backfire M3 is nuclear capable, but pretty much all bombers are at this point.



Its a combination of standoff bomber that can launch the Russian's newer hypersonic cruise missiles which can be conventional or nuclear. It can launch guided munitions. But I doubt very much that the Russians have moved any of their nuclear munitions anywhere near the airfields that these bombers are.



From a ground support perspective, the Backfire isn't really designed for that. Its a strategic platform that can carryout a tactical role though.


It's also a very effective maritime strike craft, it can come in at high speed launch its KG-22 anti-ship missile from a thousand miles away, then burner out at high speed.


However its an older bird, its been around for about 50 years, its not all that stealthy preferring speed over sneakiness.
