He used to try and beat the d-man wide, get cut off, button hook and turn the puck over along the boards sending a rush the other way.
To me there are two changes this year. First, he is attacking the centre, which gives him more options when he slows on the rush (or button hooks). Second, when he is trapped along the boards after failing to beat the d-man wide he is now dumping the puck instead of turning it over.
He's just making better decisions all over the ice, and it's hard to not think Daryl has helped him massively here.
