OIL SLICK CAN'T BE CONTAINED
Oilers impressive again

Well even the GM was taken aback by this result today. With top players like Mattias Ohlund and Bobby Holik out of the lineup and the Caps starting to look like they wanted to put some wins together the Oilers answered critics in a big way today with a 7-0 romp over last years top team in the CPHL. The Oilers have now won 9 straight, and 5 games this week. Thomas Vokun was almost like the Maytag repairman in this game turning aside a mere 14 Capital shots. The Oilers did not exactly throw the kitchen sink at the Caps but took advantage of some questionable netminding by the Cap tandem of Marc-Andre Fleury and Simon Lajeunesse.

Offensively the Oilers were lead by Jason Spezza with 2 goals and 2 assists. Bates Battaglia pitched in with two goals and Radek Dvorak, Brian Leetch, and Kristian Huselius each tallied single markers. Tom Poti recorded a point in his 6th straight game since joining the Oilers and had 10 points in 5 games and was +12 this week.

Tommorrow the Oilers close off a 4 game in 4 night stretch when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Oilers hope to run their streak to a perfect 10, but one has to think it's more than due time that someone opened up a can of whoopass on the Oilers. The Jackets seem like just the team to do it.

Since aquiring better quality backup goaltending for Thomas Vokun the Czech backstop has posted an 11-3 record and has lowered his GAA from 3.30 to 2.54 on the season and now ranks 5th in the CPHL in GAA and tied for 5th with 14 wins. Brian Leetch is quietly enjoying another stellar season in Edmonton as the allstar snub from last year now has 30 points in 29 games played and ranks 3rd among all defenceman in the CPHL. Despite being the CPHL's top scoring team on a goals per game basis the Oilers don't have any one player in the leagues top 30 in scoring. In fact only Leetch, Radek Dvorak, and Vincent Lecavalier are averaging more than one point per game all having scored one more point than their number of games played.
