Don't worry doctors believe it's repetitive hits to the head that cause it, not hits to the shins.

But saying anything definitive about CTE is nearing a fool's errand at this point. It's not so much the headaches but the cause of the headaches, the repeated brain trauma, and then him exhibiting symptoms of early stage CTE.

As they're finding it in student athletes and people who never experienced a concussion but rather just repetitive subconcussive hits, I certainly wouldn't rule it out for someone like Joe. Especially if he was participating in as many matches of taekwondo as he said he did. Also it's a degenerative brain disease. It's not binary. Not everyone is going to have Aaron Hernandez level of tau protein, but a person who fought for nearly a decade in some capacity wouldn't be the least likely person of all time to have CTE.
