This has nothing to do with what happened decades ago. If the Flames could no longer play in the Saddledome and had no concrete deal for a new arena and told Bettman their plan was to play at the UofC until they could figure it out he would tell them it was not happening and have them in a US market next year. I have zero doubt of that.
