I'm not impressed at all with our asset management skills, as we seem to constantly wind up with bloated contracts that we're unable to move, or let players walk for nothing when they won't re-sign.

The Flames should be honest with their fans, and if we're not going to be able to re-sign our star players, move them on for picks and prospects. The last time a Canadian franchise won the Stanley Cup was 1993, and if we're being honest with ourselves, small market Canadian teams are basically developmental squads for the big American markets. We need to box smarter. I think most people on here are just hoping we make the playoffs and our goalie gets hot at the right time. Where has that strategy gotten us for the last thirty-two years? Nowhere.

But we don’t know what the likelihood of them re-signing is, only the Flames’ management does. Maybe there has been an indication that they want to stay but both sides have agreed that the final dollars and term can’t be agreed upon until after the season plays out. I can’t see why either player would agree to some sort of discount based on past seasons when this season they are crushing it. Also, the Flames aren’t going to pay a huge price tag on the assumption that the back half of the season will mimic the first half.
