The NHL does a combine prior to the draft, which is largely useless at providing insight on Prospects beyond “Do you even lift?”

They should do a skills combine. A hot lap, accuracy, hardest shot, skills relay - get the top 50 ranked prospects on the ice and give us a look at them all side by side.

I bet there’s more useful information to be gleaned from that than how many chin ups a guy can do.

Although in hindsight, that was a significant red flag.
