Fela Kuti was an incredible musician and composer, but his music wasn’t even tangentially rock and roll. Or influential on rock and roll. May as well nominate Charles Mingus.
And count me as another one surprised that Judas Priest hasn’t made it in yet. They’re extremely popular, extremely influential, and actually played rock and roll.
