He has made his partners better players as well. Last year it was Hanifin. This year Kylington. He is the Backlund of the back end in that regard.

I think both Tanev and Markstrom were surprise signings to a few people, I don't recall hearing anything or much at the time.
It does give you some insight on Treliving as he would have been looking for someone at least as good as Brodie. Don't have time but would be interesting to look back and see who else was available that would have been a good replacement for Brodie.
It shows that Treliving was looking for the best replacement players including the goalie and they were on his main rival and he still went for them. It could also make you look at the Lucic signing differently, it looks like a salary swap and trading Neal but Treliving also saw the difference in those 2 players then already.
I would say maybe under the radar but other GMs surely would have known about those 2 players, Tanev and Markstrom.
