So Tree is going to have space to add something significant, without really requiring the removal of anyone else.

That's trade deadline rental deal money. You rarely keep the rental.
The issue is the summer. Guadreau 1.5-2 mil? Tkachuk 2 mil? Mangiapane 1-2 mil? Kjillingtons not playing for $750 next year either.
Zadorov and Pitlick free up a bit but not enough.
Rudzicka has spent 2.5 seasons "simmering" in the AHL.
If I'm not mistaken Rudzicka was a late cut in camp and one the of the first call ups this year. Sutter clearly likes the guy. He also been an upgrade, inexperience (12 games) or not, over Richardson (849 games). The 4th line is way more fun with him on it. They actually get a few scoring chances. He's a rookie and makes mistakes however clearly Sutter thinks there's something there regardless of what the fans here think.
I can see the team thinking ahead and developing Rudzicka on the 4th line this year to set him up in case Monahan is moved for cap space.
