IMO you can't pay any player based on tehri best season, not when they will be turning 29 years old.

I think you’re forgetting the biggest variable of all here and that’s Matthew Tkachuk. Gaudreau has never played with a talent like Tkachuk before who plays and thinks the game like him.
I said it at the end of the 20-21 season that the Gaudreau-Tkachuk duo reminds me a lot of the McDavid-Draisaitl combo. Our duo may not be as physically gifted as the generational players up north, but their chemistry is still out of this world.
When you put 2 players with instincts, vision, anticipation and the type of skill these 2 have, magic happens and if was in full display yesterday. I’m absolutely signing both those players long term because together with Lindholm, they form arguably the best 2 way line in the entire league.
This line is the only reason why this team wins any games at all. From my count, they’re at 19 of 19 in terms of impact on Flames victories so far this season.
