I agree with this because it's the key to getting good contracts.
If you want contracts that are steals, you basically have to pay a premium for term without having the player prove their potential themselves first.
It's risky, but if the player is young and is promising, it can be enormously beneficial.
You could argue that the single best move Treliving has done was Lindholm's extension. Chychrun, Slavin, Theodore, Batherson, D. Toews, Buchnevich, Teräväinen, etc.
Josi signed a 7 x 4 mill contract after only playing 100 NHL games and having proved very little. It was one of the best contracts I've ever seen.
Kylington is kind of in a similar spot.
