Simple, iconic, representative enough that even if they've never seen it before, most Canadians could look at it and identify where it's from. Most flags are either full of symbology that's difficult to decipher, or need to explicitly state the name of the city on them. Take this new flag and ask people what city it represents, and I'd be surprised if anyone guessed Calgary.
