After sitting on it for a couple weeks, I wanted to provide a brief spoiler-free review of FFXIV: Endwalker.
Pros
+ I feel like they managed to stick the landing with wrapping up a story that started at A Realm Reborn
+ Satisfying conclusion that really drives home that you, The Warrior of Light, are the center of the story
+ Plenty of great surprises and emotional moments
+ Amazing soundtrack
+ Great boss fights
Cons
- Stealth following missions suck
- The sections of the main scenario that are intended to give you a breather from the intensity of the story are really boring and tedious
- A 60 second loop of a song that plays for an hour long stretch of the game drove me to turn off the music for a bit
- You need to devote 200 hours of your time to be able to enjoy this expansion
Overall, if you can put FFXIV and its expansions into one whole piece, it's probably the best mainline Final Fantasy story in a long time. I would rank Shadowbringers as a better expansion than Endwalker, but it's still very good.
