However, the rest of the things that people are bagging on E. Kane about like gambling, false claims from his vindictive and crazy ex-wife, etc., is being overblown. Lets look at some examples:
- Jagr is a notorious gambler and womanizer with significant debts, but he never received nearly the same media coverage about it that E. Kane does.
- Patrick Kane has physically and sexually assaulted numerous people, which is swept under the rug.
- Tony Deangelo is a Trump-ist with a history of racism that dates back to his junior days, but there has been minimal media coverage on him besides the NYR scuffle.
- Jeff Carter was kicked off of Philly for partying and is rumored to have slept with his teammate's wife, but there was minimal media coverage on that as well
Besides the Covid-issues, E. Kane is being vilified for acting no different than the rest of the hockey fraternity (i.e. acting like a typical dumb jock/pro athlete), but like many of his peers (e.g. Emery, Ho-Sang, Subban, A. Carter, etc.) there's a media target on his back because he's "different". It's ridiculous
I am not absolving Kane of his stupidity, but the conditions on the Flames are present to make acquiring him a success for both parties and Treliving is an idiot if he doesn't pursue it

Have their been (m)any other players who did pretty much all of the above?
I'm also not sure 'media coverage' is the bone to pick here. A key difference in E Kane's case is his ex-wife going public on twitter...that is something tangible that can be reported. I don't recall enough about the P Kane case(s), but the legal proceedings can inhibit coverage to some extent (yet there was still plenty of coverage). The others are largely rumour and innuendo, which isn't fertile grounds for legitimate reporting.
The thing to question might be the 'forgiveness' from fans. P Kane is the only one who has remained with the same fanbase as when he committed his sins...and the scandals related to the Blackhawks is a whole nother debate.
Could fans do more to protest the others? Perhaps...
