Exactly, they're hilarious. Worth a watch every time.
M. Night is at his worst when he starts veering into mythological fantasy and melodrama. That's when he loses sight of the characters and his movies get boring. His most boring movies are Lady in the Water, The Last Airbender, and After Earth, and they all have a few things in common: they cost a ton of money to make, they're full of fantasy backstory that Night doesn't really care about or know how to explain, and they're way too long (probably because of the studios/budget).
M. Night is in his wheelhouse when his settings are limited, he doesn't have a ton of characters to write, and his movies are max 90 minutes long. Bonus points when he has a limited budget to work with because that's when he gets the most creative/ridiculous with his visuals.
