Batista was on his way up from Miami and Dexter knew he was in a corner. Like the animal he is, he has always violated the code to save himself. Compound that with his son I don't think it was the stretch you saw it as. At least IMO.

As for the ending, I thought it worked very well. Harrison clearly did not get the relief from killing that Dexter had. His disgust and confusion as the blood trickled towards him in Kurt's hatch, combined with him constantly reassuring himself that it was saving lives, made the turn very believable.

The pain of the original final two seasons almost seems worth it to see Deb's image at the end of Dexter's realization. Almost.

Excellent finale.

I agree too. He tried to get out without killing Logan but put himself in a kill or be killed solution. And you're right Harrison added to his self preservation instincts. I really bought into the Harrison making him realize he wasn't the good guy he thought he was. I thought that part was pretty well done
