Neil deGrasse Tyson said the same thing, he and many more like him also said given the sheer amount of planets likely in the universe it's virtually impossible for intelligent life not to exist somewhere.

Problem is, life forms are a product of their home planet and even if their advancement found a way to go very fast space is not a safe place to bring up a family! If we ever find something "alien" on earth I suspect it would be some kind of lost artifact or probe that's probably 10's of thousands or even millions of years old.
